Digital Empowerment: PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program welcomes 6,207 new graduates

by PLDT Public Affairs | May 25, 2016
The PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program continuously gives opportunities for the acquisition of Information Technology (IT) knowledge to public high school students and elementary and public high school teachers nationwide.

Enabling digital literacy in various areas nationwide, PLDT Community Relations (ComRel) Division headed by Head/Consultant Evelyn M. Del Rosario led the graduation of its flagship project PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program in different schools within 20 DepEd school divisions from across the country.

The Infoteach Outreach graduation rites kicked off in two municipalities in Alaminos and Nagcarlan, Laguna, making its rounds to the next 19 areas including eight municipalities from Quezon; five each from Bauang, La Union and Capiz; and three from Antique. The graduation was also held in one municipality each in the following DepEd school divisions namely, Pili, Camarines Sur; Vigan City; Calamba, City; San Fernando, La Union; Baguio City; San Pablo City; Bacolod City; Silay City; Talisay, Negros Occidental; Angeles City; Iloilo City; Oton, Iloilo; Tuguegarao City; Davao City; and Muntinlupa City.

On its 19th round of graduation rites, the Infoteach Outreach Program has produced 3,189 teacher graduates and 3,018 student graduates.

“PLDT has always recognized the importance of technology in nation-building,” PLDT ComRel Head/Consultant Evelyn M. Del Rosario said. “Through the PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program, these 6,207 new graduates are given the opportunity to truly adapt to the ever-changing landscape of technology.”

The PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program, supported by renowned partner institutions such as the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), Department of Education (DepEd), TESDA, Intel, and local government units (LGUs), continuously gives opportunities for the acquisition of Information Technology (IT) knowledge to public high school students and elementary and public high school teachers nationwide. Since it started in 2004, the program has produced more than 14,000 graduates.

Each partner institution plays a role in making every PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program a success. UPOU conducts the Master of Trainers. In coordination with DepEd, the Training of Trainers and the roll-out of trainings as well as the handling of certificates and plaques are subsequently held.

DepEd, through its Division ICT coordinators, conducts the Training of Trainers and monitors the roll-out of trainings in various public high schools nationwide where the PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program is being implemented.

TESDA further enables the propagation of digital literacy through the certification of trainings for the progressive learning undertaken by the newly recognized student- and teacher- graduates.

Intel provides the modules “Getting Started” for teacher participants and “Skills for Success” for student participants. The partner LGUs encourage active participation of every student and teacher in each division.

In recognizing the ability of these new PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program graduates to adapt to the ever-growing technology, every individual continues to thrive despite the continuous digital transformation. As PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program welcomes its new set of graduates, one can only hope for the continued propagation of digital knowledge and information.
