PLDT fixed line service revenues increased by 6% year-on-year to P28.1 billion at the end of the June 2014, underpinned by sustained double-digit growth in data revenues which already account for 53% of the total fixed line service revenues.
“Our fixed line business continues to deliver a strong performance, defying global trends, as business and revenues from our retail and corporate customers continue to grow at a steady pace,” PLDT President and CEO Napoleon Nazareno said.
Fixed broadband revenues, accounting for 46% of total fixed line data revenues, grew by 14% to nearly P6.8 billion as of the first half, driven by an 11% growth in subscribers. As of June this year, over 47% of PLDT’s total 2.2 million fixed line subscribers have fixed broadband subscriptions.
Data center revenues, meanwhile, improved by 18% to hit the P1 billion mark, contributing 7% to total fixed line data revenues.
Revenues from corporate data and other network services increased by 7% to P7 billion, representing 47% of total fixed line data revenues.
Nazareno said that the strong growth of PLDT’s data services helped offset the revenue declines from legacy businesses such as international and long distance.
“The ongoing structural shift in our revenue mix continues to impact our performance. Our growing revenues, or those from our data businesses, are now larger than those from our legacy businesses,” said Nazareno.
Earlier this year, PLDT announced several projects that further expanded its already extensive fiber optic network which now reaches 88,000 kilometers, more than four times that of competition.
PLDT also aimed to further strengthen its network by providing improved resiliency in its domestic fiber optic network (DFON) via the laying down of third legs in its fiber loops in key areas nationwide, the latest of which is the Bohol DFON project that provided redundant links between Visayas and Mindanao.
PLDT is also expanding its data center business with the construction of two more data centers in the country that will bring its combined capacity to 6,600 racks, enabling a solid portfolio of Cloud-based services for the enterprise market.
“In offering broadband, data centers have become a viable telecoms service for expanding corporates, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and business process outsourcing companies (BPOs) in their demand for high-grade IT enterprise solutions. We have solidly leveraged on our unrivalled integrated network advantage and we will continuously extend our reach to further enable businesses and empower the rest of the country,” he concluded.
