As PLDT embraces its digital pivot, the role of VP for Digital Marketing Carlo Ople in the Company’s ongoing transformation is one that embarks on taking advantage of its challenger position for a better turnaround.
Ople believes that if there’s one opportunity for PLDT to be able to make a turnaround, it is now. He believes that this is also based on the mindset that we are now in the challenger position.
“I think this Company really needs that kind of thinking — people who are willing to push their limits, to push the boundaries of what can be done and to have an unending possibility and adaptability,” Ople said.
Millennials as the future of telco
Ople sees the next generation as the visionaries and renewed hope of the digital age. As PLDT and SMART make their way towards the digital transformation, more millennials exhibit their own leadership prowess as they make their marks in the company’s digital pivot.
“The future of the telco is in the next generation. They are our next generation of leaders and it’s inspiring to see that in action and not just in service. We’re starting to see people who are in their 30s, some even in their 20s who are already taking positions where they can actually make decisions and change the direction of the company,” Ople said.
“But there’s still a lot of room for improvement,” he added.
Visualizing a huge potential for the next generation, Ople is thrilled to see a limitless amount of talent within the PLDT Group. When assigned within a right program, he believes that these millennials can eventually take leadership roles that will allow them to perform well and deliver great results.
For Ople, taking the role as VP for Digital Marketing drives him to his end goal of becoming irrelevant. He aspires for everyone to fully understand what digital marketing is and how it works.
“It [Digital] is the mindset and not the technology. You have people who will keep on pushing the boundaries of what can be done using technology and platforms and communications,” Ople said.
As various innovations pave the way for even greater technological breakthroughs, there is a need to create a mindset that is attuned to the idea of becoming digital. Through this, the company takes on more chances of propelling itself to even greater heights. CC:
