A step closer to Silicon Valley: 20 teams vie for finals slot in MVP Geek Olympics
The MVP Geek Olympics, the first MVP-wide hackathon competition, recently announced the top 20 teams whose ideas are now closer to the finals after nearly 100 entries were submitted from employees of the different participating MVP-led companies following the announcement early this year.
Centered on the theme #CollaborateToInnovate, visionaries, brainiacs, and developers from PLDT, Smart, ePLDT, Voyager Innovations, Meralco, Maynilad, Metro Pacific, the Hospital Group, and the Tollways Group formed their teams to create their innovative solutions under five categories in the competition – SMEs, BPOs, Healthcare, Smart City, and Hotels, Resorts & Hospitality.
The 20 Teams who will pitch their ideas for a spot in the Finals are: Broken Breaks, Starman, Team Euphoria, and Team LMNP from PLDT; Berlake, Genesis, O8, Petsmalu, The Imagineers, Vera, Team Marty, and Zoom Labs from Smart; Chronos, and Mycellia from ePLDT; Split Payments, Thetas of Manila, and Paymaya Cuties from Voyager Innovations; Cumulus from Maynilad; Team Cadetes from Meralco; and The Cardinals from Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
From finding parking spaces, data mining, solar-powered signal boosters, and a business-to-business platform, the Top 20 are now developing their solutions to further solidify their models for presentation in the semi-final round. For some teams, members include programmers, marketing persons, newcomers, seasoned managers, a team of nurses, and an all-girl group.
“These teams have really shown potential to become viable solutions to addressing enterprise gaps that industries can benefit from,” said PLDT Enterprise Core Business Development Head Andy Santos during the 3-day BootCamp for the semi-finalists. “We’re all excited to see their prototypes and how their business models will play out. This MVPGO really puts the spotlight on our employees and showcase Innovation from within the MVP Group.”
The MVP Geek Olympics will hold the semi-finals pitching round on May 25 at the Meralco Multi-Purpose Hall and an exhibit of their solutions. Ten Finalists will be announced who will then refine and finally pitch to an external Board of Judges on May 31.
The winning team will be flown to the mecca of innovations, Silicon Valley in California where the team will be treated to a week-long tour of top digital companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter, and to meet-and-greet with personalities working on the latest innovations projects from these companies.
The first MVP Geek Olympics is a joint project of the PLDT and Smart’s Innovations Laboratory, Human Relations, and Public Affairs to promote the innovations thinking among employees, not just in the PLDT Group but for all employees under MVP.
